About Us
Mid-Valley Learning
Center began in 1995 in the
home of Joan Craig of Jefferson, Oregon. Joan started with 5 students
and soon the students outgrew her home. To provide tutorial services
to the growing numbers of students in this area, she began Mid-Valley
Learning Center in Albany, Oregon in 1998. In 1999 Joan started
a private school for children with dyslexia and other learning
disabilities.
Mid-Valley Learning Center is
a non-profit private alternative school which is state approved,
providing Century 21 classes for both full-time and part-time
students with dyslexia and other learning disabilities in grades
K-12.
Tutorial services are available
for all ages and in all academic areas.
Mid-Valley Learning Center staff
members are qualified teachers, trained in the newest educational
developments in teaching children with dyslexia and other learning
disabilities. Mid-Valley uses well researched and successful methods.
Mission
It is the mission
of MVLC to aide children with dyslexia and other Language
Learning Differences to recognize their gifts, understand their
weaknesses, and take advantage of their unique learning style.
It is our mission to make learning a joyful experience so that
children will become intrinsically motivated to learn and parents
will be happy with their children's progress.
Philosophy
-
We teach our
students to recognize, understand and take advantage of their
own learning styles.
-
We create
a learning environment in which children can experience
success
and regain
confidence.
-
We make learning
fun, engaging, and appropriate to their individual learning
styles and needs, thereby helping students become motivated
intrinsically to learn.
-
We use the
latest research and technology to address the problems of
a variety of learning disabilities.
-
We give children
the tools to enjoy successful learning throughout life.
-
We meet the
individual learning needs and interests of students by keeping
class size small.
